It has been shown to be effective against Hepatitis B virus (HBV) and human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1). Lamivudine 5'-monophosphate ammonium salt is a synthetic nucleoside that is phosphorylated to form its active form, lamivudine 5'-triphosphate ammonium salt. This drug has been shown to inhibit tumor growth in vivo and in vitro.
