1-(3'-O-Methyl-b-D-xylofuranosyl)-5-methyluracil is a modified nucleoside that is synthesized by the phosphoramidite method. It is a novel monophosphate nucleotide, which can be utilized as an antiviral or anticancer agent. 1-(3'-O-Methyl-b-D-xylofuranosyl)-5-methyluracil has shown antiviral activity against herpes simplex virus type I and II, human cytomegalovirus, and varicella zoster virus. It also inhibits the replication of human immunodeficiency viruses (HIV), such as HIV type 1, HIV type 2, and simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV). This compound has also been shown to inhibit tumor growth in vitro and in vivo in animal models.
