It has been shown to be effective against HIV, herpes simplex virus and cytomegalovirus (CMV). 5-(N-Methyl-N-trifluoroacetyl-aminomethyl)-2-thiouridine is a nucleoside analogue that can be used as an activating agent in the synthesis of oligonucleotides and phosphoramidites. It has anticancer properties and may also have applications in gene therapy.
