It is an analog of adenosine 5'-triphosphate (ATP) in which the ribose sugar has been replaced by a 2'-O-(methoxyethyl) moiety. It has shown to be cytotoxic against cancer cells, and it is a potent activator of human telomerase, the enzyme that synthesizes telomeres at the end of chromosomes.
