It was found to be effective in reducing the number of neutrophils and responsiveness of these cells to stimuli. 6-Methyl-thio-guanosine is able to reduce the number of neutrophils in the airway and decrease the amount of sputum produced by patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. 6-Methyl-thio-guanosine also prevents the release of mediators from these cells, which are important in inflammation.
