2,6-Bis[3-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)phenyl]pyridine is an organometallic compound that has been shown to be highly efficient as a light emitter. The molecule is activated by electron injection, and the electron current can be converted into light emission. The efficiency of this material is dependent on the nature of the transport properties in solution. 2,6-Bis[3-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)phenyl]pyridine has a high chemical stability, which is attributed to its nitrogen atoms. This material emits blue light when irradiated with UV or visible light and was found to have a quantum yield of 1% under such conditions. 2,6-Bis[3-(9H-carbazol-9-yl)phenyl]pyridine also reacts with picolinic acid in a reaction solution to form phosphorescent crystals.
