It has been shown to inhibit the growth of prostate cancer cells by inhibiting DNA synthesis. 2-Thiothymidine binds to dna duplexes and polymerase chain reactions, which are important for replication of DNA. This drug also inhibits replication by preventing intramolecular hydrogen bonds from forming.2-Thiothymidine is a nucleoside analog that is substituted for thymine during DNA synthesis.
