The second step is the coupling of the monophosphate with an appropriate nucleotide. 5-(2-(Trimethylsilyl)-1-ethynyl)-1-(2',3',5'-tri-O-acetyl-b-D-ribofuranosyl)imidazo-4-carbonitrile is a novel nucleoside analogue, which has been shown to be active against cancer cells and to inhibit viral replication by interacting with DNA polymerase and other enzymes involved in DNA synthesis.
