Descripción:1-(b-D-Xylofuranosyl)-2-thiouracil is a synthetic nucleoside that inhibits viral and cancer cell growth. It is an analog of the natural nucleoside thymidine, with an extra oxygen atom at position 2. The molecule forms a monophosphate, which is converted to a diphosphate by phosphoramidate synthase. This diphosphate is then incorporated into DNA, where it inhibits the activity of DNA polymerase and deoxyribonucleases, leading to inhibition of DNA synthesis. 1-(b-D-Xylofuranosyl)-2-thiouracil also has antiviral properties as it can inhibit viral replication by blocking the incorporation of nucleotides into the growing DNA strand.
