Trans-zeatin riboside-5'-monophosphate sodium salt is a growth rate inhibitor that inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 30S subunit of the ribosome. This compound has been shown to inhibit cell growth and proliferation in vitro when applied to tissue cultures of tabacum l. and other plants. Trans-zeatin riboside-5'-monophosphate sodium salt is not active against plant tissues grown in vivo, which may be due to its inability to cross the plasma membrane or cell wall.
