- RebaudiosideD
Rebaudioside D is a naturally occurring steviol glycoside that has been found to be a potent inhibitor of glycosidases, with the exception of glucose-6-phosphate hydrolase. It can be prepared by high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and purified to high purity. Rebaudioside D has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on the activity of enzymes involved in energy metabolism. This compound also induces photo-synthetic activity in plants, which may be due to its ability to increase production of chlorophyll and carotenoids. Rebaudioside D is not toxic when administered orally or intravenously at doses up to 2000 mg/kg. In addition, rebaudioside D does not react with nucleophiles such as alcohols and amines, making it an ideal candidate for use in analytical methods that require a nonreactive chemical taggant.
