Ethyl 5-methylfuran-2-carboxylate is a feedstock that is used in the production of additives for lubricants. Ethyl 5-methylfuran-2-carboxylate has been shown to have high thermal stability, excellent lubricity, and good resistance to oxidation. This feedstock has also been found to be compatible with alkoxycarbonyl groups and can be used as an additive for gasoline. The synthesis of this compound involves the alkylation of pyrrole using ethyllithium followed by dehydration, which leads to a high yield of this compound.
