2,5-Diiodobenzoic acid is a molecule that has been shown to have anti-cancer properties. It was found to inhibit the growth of malignant glioma cells in vitro and in vivo. The mechanism by which 2,5-diiodobenzoic acid inhibits the growth of these cells is not clear, but it may be due to its ability to change the permeability of the cell membrane or alter the function of proteins such as G proteins. This molecule has also been shown to bind with high affinity to cell nuclei, suggesting that it may be an effective imaging agent for use in diagnosis.
