It is also effective against protozoa (e.g., Plasmodium falciparum) and viruses. 9,11Beta-Dichloro-17,21-dihydroxy-16beta-methylpregna-1,4-diene 3,20 -dione dipropionate binds to the 50S ribosomal subunit of bacteria by competitive inhibition of protein synthesis.
