Strontium acetate hemihydrate is a strontium salt that emits light when heated. It is prepared by the reaction of strontium hydroxide with acetic acid and then calcined to produce strontium acetate hemihydrate. This compound can be used in analytical chemistry as a reference material for calibration of instruments or as a light source. The emission spectrum ranges from 400 nm to 650 nm, with an emission peak at about 550 nm. Strontium acetate hemihydrate has been shown to have a constant emission spectrum under different conditions and does not exhibit color change upon heating.
