5-Phenylpyridine-2-carbonitrile is a synthetic compound. It emits light when subjected to an electric field, and it can be used in intermolecular quantum efficiency measurements. 5-Phenylpyridine-2-carbonitrile has been shown to have a quantum efficiency of 0.72% in benzonitrile and picolinonitrile diodes at room temperature, which is lower than the quantum efficiency of phosphorescent materials such as ZnS:CuCl (0.87%). This may be due to the low energy required for the triplet state to emit light.
