This compound has also been shown to act as a fluorescence or fluorescent dye by absorbing light at one wavelength and emitting it at another wavelength. 1-(4-Bromophenyl)-2-phenylethane-1,2-dione reacts with thiosemicarbazide to form oxadiazoles and cyclopentenones.
