Bromononylmagnesium (BnMg) is a low molecular weight cationic lipid. It has been shown to be effective in treating bacterial pathogens such as Listeria monocytogenes and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. BnMg also has anti-inflammatory properties and can be used to reduce the risk of atherosclerosis by inhibiting cholesterol uptake by macrophages, which are cells that contribute to plaque formation in the arteries. The molecule is lipophilic, water soluble, and biodegradable. The effective dose for BnMg is determined by its molecular weight, which ranges from 100-1000 Da.
