Iodomethylenetrimethylammonium iodide is an iodinated organic compound with a hydroiodic acid group. It can be used as a thickener, in the form of a salt, for various products such as paint, varnish and ink. Iodomethylenetrimethylammonium iodide has been shown to inhibit the action of acetylcholine at muscarinic receptors. This inhibition can be reversed by the addition of atropine or other muscarinic antagonists. Iodomethylenetrimethylammonium iodide also has cardioinhibitory effects that are similar to those of methoxamine and may be due to its ability to produce catecholamines from tyrosine.
