Ethyl 2-mercapto-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylate is a chemical compound that is the ethyl ester of 1H-imidazole and 2-mercaptoethanol. It can be synthesized by nitration of ethyl mercaptan, followed by hydrolysis. Ethyl 2-mercapto-1H-imidazole-4-carboxylate is a white solid with a melting point of 92 °C. It has been used as an intermediate in the synthesis of other compounds, such as urea derivatives, which are used in the production of polyurethane foams.
