2,6-bis(diphenylphosphanyl)pyridine (BPP) is a compound that contains amine and halide groups. BPP can be used as an intermediate in the synthesis of organometallic palladium complexes. The nitrogen atoms in this molecule are coordinated to the central metal atom, which binds to four other ligands. The optical properties of BPP depend on the type of substituents on the pyridine ring. BPP also reacts with aryl chlorides to form polydentate complexes that have different photochemical properties than those without chlorine substitution.
