5-(Pyridin-4-yl)pyrimidine is a heterocyclic organic compound that is highly soluble in water. The pyrimidine ring has two nitrogen atoms, one on the apical carbon and one on the ribosyl carbon. This molecule can exist as two isomers, cis- and trans-. The cis-isomer has a redox potential of 0.05 V, which is higher than the trans-isomer. 5-(Pyridin-4-yl)pyrimidine has been shown to have luminescence properties at room temperature and can be used for x-ray structures determination. It also has monooxygenase activity with a water molecule as the substrate.
