It has been shown to be cytotoxic to cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, with an IC50 of less than 15 μM in three different types of cancer cell lines. Cyclo(Arg-Gly-Asp-D-Phe-Glu) has a high uptake rate, which may be due to its ability to bind to the amino acid residue glutamic acid on the surface of cancer cells. This peptide also has a prognostic value for pancreatic cancer, as patients with increased levels of Cyclo(Arg-Gly-Asp-D-Phe-Glu) have a poorer prognosis.
