It is an enol that can be used to synthesize lactones, which are important in the synthesis of pharmaceuticals. 2-(But-3-en-1-yl)benzoic acid has been shown to react with bromo and hexafluorophosphate in an intramolecular cyclization to form a six membered ring. This reaction occurs spontaneously when the carbons are disfavored, due to steric effects.
