Descripción:(+)-U-50488 hydrochloride is a synthetic opioid analgesic, which was developed to be a potent and selective agonist at the κ-opioid receptor. The optical isomer of this drug has shown to be a more potent analgesic than the racemic mixture. This drug has been shown to produce an anti-nociceptive effect in mice with arthritis by inhibiting the release of glutamate, leading to an increased release of GABA in the spinal cord. (+)-U-50488 hydrochloride has been shown to have an antidepressant effect when used as a treatment for major depressive disorder. This drug also has a strong sedative effect and can cause respiratory depression, constipation, and nausea.
