Human beta-endorphin is an opioid receptor agonist that belongs to the group of endogenous opioids. It is released by the pituitary gland and binds to receptors in the brain, where it stimulates the release of dopamine, which acts on many regions of the brain. Beta-endorphin has been used as a research tool for its ability to activate opioid receptors and study ligand-receptor interactions. This protein has also been used as a tool for studying ion channels, cell biology, pharmacology, and protein interactions.
