Isodunnianol is a natural compound that has been shown to have potent antibacterial activity. It is effective against Staphylococcus aureus and other bacteria such as Bacillus subtilis and Enterobacteria cloacae. Isodunnianol also induces cell death in bacteria by causing autophagy, which is the process of self-eating. This compound has been shown to cause damage to the extracellular matrix of skin cells, but it does not affect the cutaneous barrier function. Isodunnianol may cause allergic reactions in some people due to its biphenyl structure.
