BDE-100 is a polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE) that belongs to the group of brominated flame retardants. It was used as a flame retardant in electrical and electronic equipment, textiles, and furniture. PBDEs are found in human blood and tissue samples worldwide. The toxic effects of PBDEs on humans are not fully understood, but it has been shown that they are genotoxic and can cause developmental abnormalities in laboratory animals. BDE-100 is commonly detected in the environment due to its widespread use as a flame retardant.
