5-Chloro-4-fluoro-2-hydroxybenzoic acid is a fluorinated derivative of 2,4-difluorobenzoic acid that is produced by the reaction of 4-fluoro-2-hydroxybenzoic acid with sodium hydroxide in the presence of chlorine. It is a white powder with an mp of 245°C. This compound is used as an intermediate in the production of salicylic acid and its derivatives and has high yields. 5-Chloro-4-fluoro-2-hydroxybenzoic acid can also be used for the synthesis of other compounds such as benzoic acids and their derivatives.
