Chlorocamphor is a reactive chemical compound, which means that it reacts with other compounds to form new compounds. It is a hydrochloride salt of camphor and ammonium chloride. Chlorocamphor can be obtained by reacting camphor with an excess of hydrochloric acid, followed by crystallization from water. This reaction forms the diastereomeric mixture of camphors (10-camphors) as well as epoxides and hydrochlorides. The 10-camphors are the most reactive of all the stereoisomers, although they are not particularly stable and will react with almost any other organic molecule in their environment.
