2-Pyridinemethanol is a colorless liquid that is soluble in water and other polar solvents. It has been shown to have pharmacological effects, such as an antiarrhythmic effect, and can be used as a solvent for hydrogen bonding interactions. 2-Pyridinemethanol has been reported to cause cardiac arrhythmia when administered at high concentrations, which may be due to its ability to form intramolecular hydrogen bonds. The ultraviolet absorption spectrum demonstrates the presence of both n-type and p-type transitions and includes bands in the range between 200 nm and 400 nm.
