Leojaponin is an active compound with anti-tumor and anti-inflammatory properties. It is a diterpene that has been isolated from the root extract of Leopoldia spp. It is a β-unsaturated ketone that contains an α,β-unsaturated ketone in the skeleton. Leojaponin has been shown to activate autophagy via raptor and to inhibit tyrosinase activity. This compound also inhibits tumor growth by inducing apoptosis in cancer cells. Leojaponin is used as a health care product for treatment of hyperpigmentation, acne, psoriasis, eczema, and other skin disorders.
