1-Benzyl-4-methylpiperidin-3-amine is a catalyst that is used in asymmetric hydrogenation reactions. It can be used as an intermediate to produce other chiral molecules. 1-Benzyl-4-methylpiperidin-3-amine can be used to produce optically pure compounds and has been shown to be effective in the asymmetric hydrogenation of methanol. This catalytic process involves the use of rhodium and ferrocenyl complexes, which are activated by the presence of methanol solvent and a base such as potassium hydroxide. The reaction produces one enantiomer, with no racemization or side products.
