1-(3-Chloro-benzyl)-piperidine-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester hydrochloride is a heterocyclic compound and protein inhibitor. It is used to treat inflammatory bowel disease and cancer. This drug has also been shown to be effective in the treatment of chronic kidney disease, diabetic neuropathy, psychotic disorder, and metabolic disorders. 1-(3-Chloro-benzyl)-piperidine-3-carboxylic acid ethyl ester hydrochloride binds to the ryanodine receptor on the cell membrane of muscle cells and inhibits voltage gated calcium channels in mitochondria. This binding prevents the release of calcium from the sarcoplasmic reticulum into the cytosol which is necessary for muscle contraction.
