5-Methyl-6-oxo-1-phenyl-1,4,5,6-tetrahydro-1,2,4-triazine-3-carboxylic acid is a research tool that is an activator of ion channels. It can be used to study the gating mechanism of potassium channels and calcium channels. This compound has been shown to inhibit the activity of protein kinase C in cells and tissues. 5-Methyl-6-oxo-1-phenyl-1,4,5,6-tetrahydro-1,2,4--triazine 3 carboxylic acid has been used to identify new ligands for receptors such as the GABA receptor and serotonin receptor.
