2,2-Dimethyl-5-phenyl-1,3-dioxane-4,6-dione is a chemical compound that has been identified as an intermediate in the synthesis of a variety of organic compounds. It is produced by decarboxylation at high temperatures and thermolysis with isocyanates. The compound can be detected by spectroscopy with infrared or nuclear magnetic resonance techniques. The unsubstituted form is more stable than its corresponding derivatives and has been shown to undergo fragmentation reactions under certain conditions.
