17β-Estradiol 3-β-D-glucuronide is a metabolite of estradiol that is formed in the liver. It has been shown to have a high affinity for the estrogen receptor and can be used as a marker for chronic exposure to estradiol. 17β-Estradiol 3-β-D-glucuronide has also been shown to inhibit protein synthesis in mammalian cells by blocking the activity of the protein polymerase, which is required for cell division. This compound also binds to toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4), which may be due to its ability to induce cytokine production.
