It is also used as a fluorophore and has shown to interact with metal ions and form an inorganic complex. 8-Nitroquinoline-2-carboxylic acid can be used for the detection of metal ions by mass spectrometry and microscopy. This compound has been shown to be effective in preventing nitrosamine formation and in the prevention of cancer cells from proliferating.
