Cis-1,2-cyclohexanedimethanol is a chemical compound that belongs to the group of aldehydes. It reacts with sodium sulfide in the presence of light to form cis-1,2-cyclohexane-dimethanol and hydrogen sulfide. The reaction mechanism is thought to involve a dehydrogenase enzyme. This process can be optimized by adjusting the concentration of sodium borohydride, the reaction time, and the amount of light used. Cis-1,2-cyclohexanedimethanol is also produced by reduction with sodium borohydride in an acidic medium.
