Its function is to assemble into a long polymer by reacting with the hydroxyl groups of the polysaccharides. Sulfate esters are also used as drugs, such as in the treatment of rheumatoid arthritis. 1-(4-Chlorophenyl)-3-methyl-1H-pyrazol-5-amine can also inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi by inhibiting their ability to produce chondroitin sulfate.
