S-Ethyl (3-hydroxypropyl)propylthiocarbamate is a synthetic, broad-spectrum antibiotic that is active against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. It is a derivative of the natural product thiocarbanilide and has been used in the treatment of malaria. S-Ethyl (3-hydroxypropyl)propylthiocarbamate inhibits protein synthesis by binding to the 50S subunit of prokaryotic ribosomes. It also prevents RNA synthesis by inhibiting viral replication. This agent has shown antiviral activity in animal studies and may be useful for chemotherapy treatments in humans.
