(E)-4-(3-Bromo-phenyl)-but-3-en-2-one is a hydrophobic molecule that has been shown to be an analog of methyl cinnamate. It has been modified with methoxy groups at the 4 and 3 positions on the phenyl ring, which are thought to increase its bioavailability. This molecule also has a carboxy group at position 2, which may increase its uptake by tissues. (E)-4-(3-Bromo-phenyl)-but-3-en-2-one is a mutagenic compound with a mutation frequency of approximately 1.1 × 10 M−1s−1 that binds to DNA in vivo and alters transcription. Studies have shown that this molecule is taken up by cells in vivo; however, it is not known how it enters cells or what transporter it uses.
