1,5-Bis(di-tert-butylphosphino)pentane (1,5-BP) is a polymeric compound that can be used as a catalyst for the synthesis of pyridine and isoamyl. 1,5-BP has been shown to exist in an equilibrium mixture of two isomers. The experimental study showed that the equilibrium constant of this mixture is dependent on the concentration of ethylene glycol in the solution. Computational studies have confirmed these findings and have also shown that the presence of water molecules changes the equilibrium constant by increasing the concentration of one isomer relative to another. 1,5-BP can be synthesized from xanthates and phosphine by decarbonylation followed by hydrolysis using hydrazine.
