Lateritin is a polyphenol found in the leaves of the plant, Eucalyptus lateritia. It has been shown to have inhibitory properties against mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase, which may be an important factor in its anti-cancer activity. The compound also has a role in regulating cell growth and differentiation. Lateritin stimulates epidermal growth factor synthesis and inhibits the production of growth factors that promote cancer. This compound is stable in both acidic and alkaline conditions, making it suitable for dietary applications.
