Descripción:Dimethyl 2-benzylmalonate is a diazonium salt that is synthesized by the reaction of hydrochloric acid and malonic acid in water, followed by the addition of an alcohol. Diazonium salts can be used as coupling agents for organic synthesis reactions. Dimethyl 2-benzylmalonate has been shown to have a stereoselective profile, with activity against pancreatic lipase. Immobilization of this compound on silica gel has been shown to improve the performance of preparative high performance liquid chromatography (prep HPLC). Dimethyl 2-benzylmalonate undergoes hydrolysis to form acetic acid and methyl benzoate. This hydrolysis can be catalyzed by inorganic acids such as sulfuric or phosphoric acids.
