Zaleplon related compound C is a crystalline polymorph of zolpidem. It has been shown to be effective in the treatment of insomnia, although its effects are less potent and shorter than those of zolpidem. This drug is metabolized by hydrolysis by stomach acids and liver enzymes into zolpidem, which is then converted into triazolam. Zaleplon related compound C has been shown to be a non-competitive inhibitor of the benzodiazepine receptor at high doses and therefore may have hepatotoxic effects in patients with hepatic impairment.
