Potassium Guaiacolsulfonate is a white crystalline powder that is soluble in water and alcohol. It is used in the preparation of pharmaceutical products such as suppositories, solutions, and ointments. The thermal expansion coefficient of potassium guaiacolsulfonate is approximately 1.5-2 times greater than that of the same amount of sodium benzoate, which makes it suitable for use in preparations containing significant amounts of water. Potassium Guaiacolsulfonate has been shown to react with diazonium salts to form an unstable intermediate that reacts with crystalline cellulose and nitrogen atoms to form uv absorbing particles. This reaction mechanism produces a particle size range from 10-30 micrometers, which can be used for biological treatment or as a filler in pharmaceutical preparations.
