The 1-bromoheptan-2-one (1BH) is a dibromomethane derivative. It is used as a natural antibacterial agent and has been shown to be effective against a variety of organisms that are commonly found in the respiratory tract, such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The antibacterial properties of 1BH may be due to its ability to release hydrogen peroxide when it reacts with an enzyme called myeloperoxidase in the nucleus. This reaction can lead to the formation of reactive oxygen species, which kill bacteria by damaging their DNA. 1BH also has anti-inflammatory effects by inhibiting prostaglandin synthesis in human neutrophils.
