It is also used as a premedication before surgery or dental treatment. 4-Phenyl-1H-benzo[b][1,4]diazepin-2(3H)-one has a number of potential side effects including drowsiness and dizziness. These side effects can be increased by alcohol and other CNS depressants such as antihistamines or tranquilizers. The reaction products are formed by refluxing 4-phenyl-1H-benzo[b][1,4]diazepin-2(3H)-one with chlorine and reacting the resultant chlorinated product with ammonia
