It has been shown to synergistically interact with other molecules and to bind to odorant receptors on the surface of cells. cis-3-Hexenyl Butyrate has been demonstrated as a potent inhibitor of human lung cancer cells (HL60) and can be used as an alternative to propionates in the assays that measure volatile organic compounds. cis-3-Hexenyl Butyrate can also be used to study the effects of damaged solanum tuberosum, or potatoes, on emissions, which are released from potatoes when they are cut or cooked.
